Recently, Malaysia Telecom CompanyU Mobile has officially obtained authorization from the Communications and Multimedia Commission under the Ministry of Communications to be responsible for building Malaysia's second 5G network. This news marks an important step forward for Malaysia in advancing its digital economy transformation and achieving its goal of becoming a regional leader in the digital economy.
It is reported that,U Mobile is ready to launch the deployment of the new generation 5G network, committed to promoting the construction of the latest 5G infrastructure to strengthen Malaysia's digital ecosystem. Huang Xiande, CEO of U Mobile, stated in a statement that U Mobile will play a key role in assisting the government in achieving its digital economy goals and providing users with a high-quality experience through enterprise level 5G networks. He emphasized that U Mobile is committed to promoting the popularization of 5G, supporting Malaysia's goal of becoming a high-income digital country, and fully cooperating with the government's digital transformation plan.
Huang Xiande also mentioned that,U Mobile fully supports the government's implementation of the dual 5G network model. He believes that this model not only helps to improve the sustainable development of the industry, but also stimulates market competition and technological innovation to ensure that Malaysia can keep up with the cutting-edge pace of scientific and technological development. Previously, the Malaysian government announced in July 2023 that it would end the monopoly of the National Digital Company Limited and implement a dual wholesale network model to provide diverse network options for private and corporate 5G users when the 5G network coverage rate reached 80%. This coverage target was successfully achieved in December last year.
U Mobile performed well in the bidding process, successfully defeating strong competitors such as CelcomDigi and Maxis, and winning the government's contract to build a 5G network. This achievement not only demonstrates the strength and technological advantages of U Mobile in the telecommunications field, but also lays a solid foundation for its future market competition.
According to reports,U Mobile plans to launch 5G network services in the next 15 to 18 months and is expected to collaborate with Chinese tech giants Huawei or ZTE. This will help U Mobile further enhance the technological level and coverage of its 5G network, providing users with better and more efficient communication services.
