01Armenia and Azerbaijan reach peace agreement

Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached a peace agreement, ending a 40 year dispute in the Nagorno Karabakh region. Azerbaijan uses military victory as a bargaining chip to demand that Armenia recognize Nagorno Karabakh's sovereignty, amend its territorial claims in the constitution, and exclude third-party intervention.

Qingqiao's viewpoint:

• The Nagorno Karabakh region was placed under Azerbaijan during the Soviet era, but its residents were mainly of Armenian descent. In 1988, the Soviet Union disintegrated and an independence movement broke out in the region. Armenia supported Nagorno Karabakh autonomy, leading to a war between the two countries. In 2023, Azerbaijan seized control of the entire Nagorno Karabakh region within 24 hours during the Russo Ukrainian conflict, forcing local Armenians to flee collectively.

01Intel announces layoffs of over 20%

Intel's Q4 2023 financial report showed a 79% year-on-year drop in net profit, with its market value surpassed by AMD and Nvidia. Subsequently, Intel announced over 20% layoffs, involving more than 24000 employees in multiple departments such as PCs and data centers.
